Spring Term Week 1

Dear Parents

Welcome back to the Spring Term. We hope you had a lovely break over the holidays with family and friends. We are looking forward to a busy and productive term.

Over the first couple of days the children settled back in to a routine and started some of their new units.

In RE we have begun Mission - looking at the meaning of missions within communities, charities and faith. The children have a piece of homework on this that will cover 2 weeks.

Much to the children’s excitement we have started Myths and Legends in English. Firstly looking at the story of Prometheus and Pandora’s box. We also linked this to our first Art lesson where the children worked on developing portrait skills and then applied this to create some great portraits of Greek Gods. These will be finished by the next blog so I will be able to post some pictures of them.

In Maths we have begun with a focus on problem solving. This was the focus of the homework and will be continued next week. It is a vital part of…

Final two weeks of Autumn Term

Dear Parents,
Wow, what a couple of weeks it has been. I’m not sure I can even remember what happened last week, this week has been so full of excitement and activity! What with snow days, services, spelling bees, nativities, Christmas lunches, etc, etc!
In Maths the children have been carrying on their work with division and fractions and marrying the two by turning division remainders in to fractions and decimals. We know the children have found this challenging but we will be re-visiting it in the coming terms.
In English the children performed some unique, well-written and entertaining raps to finish off their unit. They did exceptionally well performing them to the class. We were really impressed with their commitment and enthusiasm. This week they have written detailed, persuasive letters to Santa. If you would like a sneak peak at what they have asked for, please pop in and ask for a copy!
In RE we have been looking at the season of Advent. The children wrote some detailed and…

Dear Parents,

It’s been another busy couple of weeks in 5S, the children all did amazingly well during their cycling training. Well done to all the children who took part and gained their certificate in cycling proficiency.
The children enjoyed doing a special Art activity to put on display in the top corridor and in the classroom with a focus on ‘Winter’. They produced some beautiful paintwork by graduating from white to blue, giving the effect of a bright moon in a night sky then adding some silhouettes using black card.
On Wednesday the children took part in a special French spelling bee. We held an audition bee in class to select our strongest pupils to represent 5S. All children worked hard on practising the spellings, with Noa and Tom being the last ones in, showing exceptional skill. They practised for the real thing with the help of other pupils in the class, so when they won and brought the trophy back to class we could confidently say it was a team effort. Well done guys y…

Dear Parents,

A big thank you to you all for being so organised. Our first day of biking has gone well!

The children have been practising how to check their bikes for safety and how to wear their helmets correctly. The instructors have been working on ensuring the children are confident to signal left and right., stop and start their bikes smoothly and turn with ease. If I have sent your child's bike home then there is a problem with the bike that needs sorting out, before it is safe for them to go out onto the road.

The class have listened well and the behaviour of the children has been good. Please can you ensure children bring in their biking clothes tomorrow. All children require a lock for their bikes. We will keep all keys safely locked away overnight.
Enjoy the photographs!

Many Thanks

Mrs Sandhu and Mrs Debenham
